Lewis Hamilton: FIA vs a Nose Ring, the Battle Before the Race

Miami Grand Prix has certainly been an interesting weekend so far with wacky and wild headlines such as Norris' basketball helmet, the fake marina beside the race track and even James Corden teaming up with Daniel Riccardo and Lando Norris to create a boyband like photo for F1 fans to indulge in while the racing is stopped.

None of these stories come close though to the interesting topic I bring today, Lewis Hamilton is struggling to find pace on the track and is finding the start of this season really tough but the headlines have been focused on one thing and one thing only this weekend surrounding Lewis...his nose ring?

Yes, this little stud in his nostril is causing absolute mayhem off track between Hamilton and the FIA, despite regularly wearing jewellery such as this while racing or in pre and post conferences Miami Grand Prix and the race, but for the Miami Grand Prix Hamilton has to receive special clearance for two piercings when on track according to FIA President Ben Sulayem and new race director Niels Wittich who both believe that it is of "medical concern" while Hamilton is driving which can be seen as a fair point to some.

When Hamilton spoke on the situation he said "This whole safety thing, man. When they told me about the jewellery, they said safety is everything. And I said, 'Well, what's happened over the last 16 years?' I've had jewellery for the last 16 years, so was safety not an issue back then?"

The consequences of Hamilton standing off against the FIA could be huge with talk of a $265,000 fine or points on his drivers license being considered, in more positive news since this first came out Hamilton and the FIA have came to a compromise on the nose stud which cannot be taken out and he will be able to wear it in race, although this one doesn't look to be dying down with the Mohammed ben Sulayem and his medical advisors reportedly ready to enforce the rule in later stages. This battle will be interesting and is something to keep and eye on over the next few weeks.
