What we Learnt from the Miami Grand Prix

In front of a celebrity-studded crowd, Max Verstappen won his second straight Formula 1 race in the Miami Grand Prix.

It was a thrilling race, as both Ferrari and Red Bull fought for victory. As for Mercedes, its struggles continued, and Williams' new star, Alex Albon secured another impressive points haul.

After starting from the pole position, Charles was overtaken by Max Verstappen, who did well to keep the Ferrari driver at bay after a late charge.

The defending champion made lightwork of both Ferrari drivers in a bid pull back some points in the drivers’ championship.

Elsewhere on the track, Alex Albon more than doubled Williams points with a 9th place finish, and George Russell kept his hot streak alive, once again finishing in the top 5 above teammate Lewis Hamilton.

The race in Miami was an amazing spectacle, here are come of the things we learnt:

-A crowd of 80,000 was allowed to pour towards the podium, while the top 3 finishers were escorted beneath the Hard Rock Stadium by a police escort.

When the top three drivers eventually arrived, three Pirelli branded American football helmets were prepared.

The weekend went above and beyond to create a massive spectacle for the first Miami Grand Prix.

It was packed with many famous stars. TV cameras picked up the likes of David Beckham, Tom Brady, Michael Jordan and the Williams sisters.

They were also met by the former first lady of the United States Michelle Obama on the grid.

-Some F1 fans are not happy with the increasingly commercialised feel of race events, and for the most part the Miami Grand Prix has seen two main reactions.

Some believe that it was an incredibly boring race, sugar coated with useless effects in order to satisfy an American audience.

Organisers used these distractions to make the event a spectacle, while the actual race was diminished.

Others believe the Grand Prix was a decent affair. Incidents involving Haas and Aston Martin, as well as Alpha Tauri and McLaren brought some life to the race.

The incident involving Lando Norris and Pierre Gasly caused the safety car that bunched up the front runners allowing for a late bit of excitement.

-After the controversial championship win for Max Verstappen last season, some fans worried that the Red Bull driver would be lacking motivation coming into this new season.

The start couldn’t have been any worse for Max, with 2 DNF’s in the first 3 races he could have given up hope of catching Charles Leclerc. But this season Verstappen has seemed to have matured a lot, especially with his driving.

Even with some of Red Bull’s reliability worries Verstappen has really come into his own in the past two races, claiming top spot in both.

The battles between him and Charles have also been very exciting from a viewer’s perspective.

Some fans have criticised Verstappen’s driving style as being over aggressive and bullish in previous seasons, however this season we have seen so far, some really great driving for the Dutchman.

After experiencing this weekend’s Grand Prix, would you want F1 to return to Miami? And did you enjoy the spectacle that was created? Let us know.
