Looking Ahead to the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix

Following a brilliant return to Albert Park, Formula One looks ahead to Imola in just over one weeks time.

Charles Leclerc and Ferrari are in firm control of both Formula One Championships, following a dominant weekend from the Monegasque driver.

It has been a quite brilliant start to the new era of F1, with all three races providing exciting drama and racing action. We now look ahead to Imola, where the teams and drivers travel to another quick track, hoping to gather some momentum.

We will look at what took place last time we visited the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix, and what to look forward to ahead of our next visit to the North of Italy.

Last time out, Emilia Romagna hosted the second Grand Prix of the 2021 Formula One season, where reigning World Champion Max Verstappen picked up his first of ten race wins in a historic year.

Almost one year on, Verstappen perhaps has a different feeling following three races so far, retiring in two of them, although he has managed to pick up a race win in Saudi Arabia.

Meanwhile seven time champion Lewis Hamilton took second, and talk about having a different feeling, he and Mercedes have seemingly not been able to build a race winning car, yet.

Struggling to match the pace of the frontrunners, Hamilton and Mercedes can't even think about a second place finish, never mind the top step of the podium, however, good news may be coming for the Silver Arrows, with strong rumours of a new floor and upgrades arriving in time for Imola, perhaps marking the start of a turning point this season.

It was a completely different picture for his teammate George Russell, who of course was at Williams last year in Emilia Romagna. And it was where we saw a rare outburst of anger from the Brit, when he and the man he replaced, Valtteri Bottas, collided and took each other out of the race in the slippery conditions.

Now we could sit and talk about that race and all that's changed since then for hours, but looking ahead, there is already a lot at stake for a lot of teams, with some looking to keep up the pace, and some not wanting to fall behind, so early on in the season.

The drivers will be looking at another fast circuit, with a quick first sector, followed by two sectors that include more low to medium speed corners that eventually lead up to the main straight, which will be the main overtaking zone.

Luckily for us, we can look forward to another exciting spectacle, where we can hope for more drama and high speed action, and a race that will provide fascinating wheel to wheel battling for the fourth race of the season.
